Bio: Gerrie Muller, creator of the WarmuBall
You’ve seen me on the video pages!
They say necessity is the mother of invention, but in my case, it might just have been the lack of a proper golf ball for garden practice. I’m Gerrie Muller, an independent strategy and sustainability consultant with a background spanning investment banking, management consulting, and economic development. While my CV proudly showcases achievements such as facilitating over 150 strategy sessions across Africa, developing cutting-edge economic impact assessments, and pioneering Social and Labour Plans (SLPs) in South Africa, none of that prepared me for the engineering marvel of creating the WarmuBall.
No, I’m not an engineer. I don’t have patents lining my office walls or a track record of tinkering in sheds. My greatest technical triumphs before this involved advanced Excel formulas and PowerPoint animations. Yet, armed with sheer curiosity, a healthy dose of YouTube tutorials, and what some might call “uninformed optimism,” I’ve managed to create a warm-up tool so ingenious it might just make you wonder why I didn’t start sooner.
The WarmuBall is my solution for amateur golfers (and, let’s be honest, a fair few frustrated 16-handicappers like me) who want to practise without losing balls, breaking windows, or enraging their neighbours. It’s practical, safe, and, dare I say, surprisingly satisfying to use.
Creating this was a reminder that innovation doesn’t always come from labs or universities—it can start in a garden, with a piece of Dyneema rope and a lot of trial and error. It’s proof that anyone, even someone whose most advanced tool prior to this was a calculator, can bring an idea to life.
So here’s to embracing your inner inventor—because if I can invent something like the WarmuBall, maybe next week I’ll be solving world peace. Or at least improving my chip shots.
